Types and applications of sprockets

Just like some power transmission parts, such as pulleys, shafts, and couplings, the sprocket is also a useful part for power transmission. It is a very popular and common gear or wheel that comes with metal teeth that mesh perfectly with a chain or track. The term pitch is used to refer to the distance between two gear wheels. They do not allow gears to slip and are specifically applied in cases where chains catch on gears or wheels. In addition, they are also used in cases of motors that produce rotational movements. Industrial sprockets are essentially part of chain drives. In a chain drive, it is important that the sprocket matches the type of chain used.

This type of power transmission part is available in a variety of styles and types. Some manufacturers adopt some specific styles of sprocket manufacturing. For example, one type is a sprocket that has a hub extension on one side. One type is a sprocket that comes with a removable bolt in a hub attached to a plate. There are still other types that are different from each other.

Based on the number of strands, sprockets can be classified into various types. First of all, the split type sprocket is a good alternative to the solid type that allows quick installation without any hammering of the shaft and alignment. Second, the Tapered Bushing Sprocket (TB) is an interchangeable bushing sprocket that provides positive grip on the driven shaft. Third, there is a quick release (QD) type of sprocket. In this type, a tapered bushing is usually screwed into the hole that is machined in the sprocket. A firm grip is provided when the hub is inserted into the sprocket, which is compressed onto the shaft.

Sprockets have a wide use of applications. They are used as agricultural implements in a seeder for seeds and fertilizers. They have a very popular application in the bicycle sector. There are usually two sets of sprockets on a bike i.e. front sprocket and rear sprocket. They are also often referred to as drive sprocket and driven sprocket. It is common for the sprocket to have automotive applications. On two-wheel scooters, the sprocket is usually a wheel that has metal teeth. The chain rides on him. They are essential for smooth mobility of two-wheelers. Furthermore, they are even used in the film transport mechanisms of movie projectors and movie cameras. In this case, the sprockets fit into film perforations in the film material.

All in all, the sprocket plays an important role in many places. Like some widely used power transmission parts, such as gearboxes and universal joints, they also attract people’s attention.
