The perfect guacamole

There is always a lot of debate among “foodies” about “The perfect guacamole.” Some like it mixed generously with onions (and if that’s your thing, more power to you). Others like a subtle hint of onion and I must agree. If you use too much onion, you don’t get the delicious nutty flavor of avocados. All you taste is … well … onion! One touch is all it takes to bring out the flavor of avocados. That’s the point of guacamole, right?

For this recipe, you will need these ingredients:

2 avocados

1/4 teaspoon Striped onion

1 scant teaspoon. mayonnaise (optional)

1 lemon

Your favorite hot sauce or salsa

salt and pepper to taste

Tools:

kitchen knife, measuring spoons, grater, cutting board, small to medium bowl, fork

Choosing the right avocados can be challenging if you are unfamiliar with them. If you choose avocados that are too hard they will not mash properly because they are not very ripe and if you choose too soft you can end up with a lot of nasty brown spots that you will have to throw away. Choose avocados that have a little “springiness” when gently squeezed. If they are too firm, you can buy them ahead of time and leave them on the kitchen counter for a day or two to ripen to perfection.

You can use frozen avocados or avocados that are already peeled and / or mashed (some grocery stores offer these alternatives), but I don’t recommend using them. There are always many additives that negatively affect the taste of avocados.

Prepare your work area with all the tools and ingredients laid out on your counter and ready to go.

Peel and remove the seed from your avocados. The easiest way to do this is to cut the avocado in half and twist the two halves to break it up. You can then scoop out the seed with a kitchen knife or spoon. You can remove the avocado or cut the two halves in two and peel it.

Place the avocados in your bowl. Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the juice over the avocado (this helps deter oxidation). You don’t need a lot of lemon juice, maybe 2-3 teaspoons. Add salt and pepper to taste and mash the avocados until they are the consistency you want.

Grate 1/4 teaspoon of onion (with juice) and add it to your avocados. You can use your measuring spoons at first, but once you’re good at it, you’ll be able to grate the proper amount of onion right into the bowl.

Add 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise (optional) and 1 tablespoon of your favorite hot sauce or salsa.

Stir to incorporate all the ingredients.

You can serve right away and enjoy with your favorite fries as a dip or use as a condiment for other dishes … no waiting time necessary!

For storage; If you want to serve later or if you end up with leftovers, (very rare since this recipe is so good!), Place it in a container that has a tight-fitting lid, then place a piece of plastic wrap directly over the guacamole and press it down. down to cover completely. Place the lid firmly on the container (the plastic wrap should be completely inside the container). This will not completely stop oxidation, but it will be minimal.

Enjoy your delicious guacamole!
