Goodbye tie-dye

Tie-dyed blouses or shirts could be associated with the “hippie” style of the early 70s, popularized by some music icons of the time. It became popular in various countries around the world. The popularity was easily gained as it was in fashion and the look can be easily achieved from simple to more complex processes.

Tie dyeing uses bright colors and different dyeing methods to achieve the printed designs on clothing. The basic tie dye process can be done at home by applying different dye colors to folded or knotted fabrics. When the cloth has absorbed the dye, it is allowed to dry. Patterned lines and designs can be achieved by removing knots after drying. Patterns made by the tie dye process can be seen as a very attractive piece of art. Changing the direction of the knots or rotating the material in one direction could easily modify the resulting pattern.

There are also other complex methods used by professionals to match colors, apply dye, and make more unique patterns. Different shapes and color combinations are achieved through the use of non-typical pleats and patterns. The designs could also be accented with rich embroidery or accessories.

As it is associated with bright colors and asymmetrical designs, tie dyed clothing is generally worn during the summer season. It is also for this reason that it is used more widely in tropical countries. Shirts and accessories made from this process can be seen more often at beaches or summer picnics. Apart from the colors, the materials that are usually dyed are cotton. Clothing made of cotton is worn during hot weather. And tie-dyed clothing commonly comes as a shirt or shawl during the day.

But amidst other haute couture, flair and glamor styles, would there still be a place for dyed materials?

As with other fashion styles, tie dye can slowly die off over time. Now other modern methods of accenting clothing are being introduced. Too many colors in an appeal is no longer pleasing to the eye for today’s fashions. In contrast to the many bright colors and busy patterns of tie-dyed clothing, what is more popular now is black or white. So women are simply complemented by gold or silver jewelry, belts, shoes and bags. While the common men’s dark suit could easily be finished with a bow tie or tie and often cufflinks for added elegance.

Even casual wear has changed trend and has slowly embraced the drab black and white combination. Although some bright colors are still considered elegant as green, yellow, and purple are red, they usually come in one-color dresses and without too busy designs. Simplicity, clarity and cleanliness direct the current theme of fashion.

But even if the modern fashion style said goodbye to dyed clothes, surely this would only be for a short time. Because fashion has never said goodbye to any style permanently. Designs come and go and after several decades, they will come back with different packaging. So if you have tie-dyed clothes that you haven’t been able to wear for quite a while, just keep them in your closet. You will never know when you are going to use it yet.
