Washburn D10s Review

I am a lead guitarist and have been playing guitar for the past 7 years. Today I have 5 different guitars and Washburn D10S it was my second guitar in my rise to high-end acoustic guitars and then to the electric segment. I have a black colored D10S (model number: D10S B).

I graduated with a Washburn D10S from my first non-brand guitar (which had a horrible sound). So this was kind of heaven for me at the time. I particularly loved its slim neck that made fingerboard movement feel like a breeze. My left hand skills suddenly got a boost and I still do it because of the skinny neck and I still remember my happiness in this new found fingerboard flexibility. This guitar has an incredibly thin neck (I’d guess the thinnest of any acoustic guitar) and that makes it easier for beginners to hone their left hand skills.

The guitar came with amazing strings. The guitar’s upper and midrange was a marked improvement over my previous guitar. My playing ability might not have changed overnight, but the sound quality did. This guitar has an impressive, warm and smooth tone, something that impresses me even after several years of playing. I later read somewhere that this is due to the Schaller tuning system used on the Washburn D10s.

I vividly remember my guitar teacher asking me to handle my D10S with care as it was a hardback guitar that supposedly needs more protection and care compared to cheaper laminate top guitars. However, after the first few days of care, I don’t recall putting this guitar back in the bag after playing. But this guitar has survived my every whim over the last 6 years and still sounds good (except for a few minor scratches). The D10S came with a limited lifetime warranty, but I’ve never had to use it.

Now for the negatives: the Washburn D10s is the guitar I play most often and I never would have thought of this if I hadn’t bought more expensive guitars later in life. I don’t like the look of the guitar. To me the body of the guitar seems to be out of proportion compared to its fingerboard. But another thing is that before I was an unconditional fan of the same looks 🙂
