The Big Picture in Greyhound Racing

Can you imagine if all the cameras, yes, even the ones on your phone, only showed you the center of your images? What if a 5X7 only showed you the center 2X3? I suspect that he would not be satisfied with his image. It would also be safe to say that you would never really know what is happening in the image, since you are only seeing a small part of it.

The greyhound handicap is the same way. You have to see the whole picture! But how can you do this? I have some suggestions.

Understand that your goal is to make money, not pick a winner. It takes most greyhound players a long time to understand this concept. If you can adapt quickly, your game will improve quickly.

Don’t just look at the past lines of a greyhound. You should see them and try to understand them. Ask yourself questions. Why did this greyhound fade from first to worst? Why did this greyhound finish eighth? Why did this greyhound skip his turn? If you can answer questions about past greyhound lines, then you’ll be in a better position to use them to predict today’s race.

See the whole card. Don’t make the mistake of having tunnel vision and just watching each race as it comes. You should look at the entire racing schedule and spend time on each race. By doing this, you can divide the races into categories, from the most playable to the least playable. If the first 5 races are really tough and don’t offer you much chance of making a profit, you should wait until later in the schedule to place your big bets. You can still make smaller bets on these tough races, but you’ll always want to put most of your money on races where you think you have the best chance of winning.

Take the time to look beyond the last 6 lines. The standard program offers you 6 lines of past races. Twenty years ago you really didn’t have many options for anything else. But today everything is unique and easily accessible. There is software that will show you the last 40 lines of the race! There is also a website that will show you all the previous lines of a greyhound and a video of their breeds too!

A player with tunnel vision is a losing player. To have the greatest chance of success, you want to see the big picture!
