Leaky Guts: Are Yours Leaky?

Diet is one of the key ingredients in having or not having a leaky gut. Unfortunately, many people do not practice healthy eating habits and this can lead to leaky gut syndrome when important dietary needs are missing. More and more processed foods are produced, which lack the necessary microorganisms. This will cause irregularities in the levels of bacteria in the stomach.

The most common signs of having a leaky gut are things like; gas, diarrhea, cramps and indigestion. This occurs when there are problems with the normal functioning of the digestive system. The digestive system has a very important role and a specific order in which all things must follow. Once you have decided what you initially want to eat, this food will travel to your intestines making a few necessary stops along the way. First the small intestine, where nutrients are absorbed, then the large intestine where the remaining water is absorbed. It is important to have a balanced amount of good and bad bacteria, as both have key roles. Good bacteria are crucial for the digestive system. They are responsible for helping to digest food and providing the necessary nutrients and vitamins. A healthy level of good bacteria will also decrease the number of bad bacteria. When the levels of bad bacteria start to grow, it will create more symptoms associated with problems like leaky gut.

The problems with the foods we eat on a regular basis are that they are processed and loaded with sugars. Processed foods are lacking in vital nutrients and other important ingredients needed in a healthy diet. This will then cause problems with the harmony of the good and bad bacteria. Normal intestines can only occur when there is a good balance. Even having a regular intake of alcohol and drugs can cause problems that are related to leaky gut syndrome. Things such as the burdens and difficulties of life have also been found to cause imbalances in bacteria. Antibiotics are given to eliminate the bad; however, they also affect the number of good bacteria. Antibiotics do not discriminate and can cause other long-term problems. It’s important to have good bacteria because it will help protect your stomach from things like preservatives and dyes.

Leaky gut starts when there is physically a leak in the intestines. This causes problems with the normal process of the digestive system. When there is a leak, things like bacteria and other bodily waste enter the bloodstream. Since the bloodstream is the highway of the body, it doesn’t take long for these unwanted travelers to enter the organs.

Using a probiotic daily along with trying to maintain a healthy diet can help keep the balance of bacteria in check. It all comes down to the need to keep bad bacteria levels to a minimum to prevent leaky guts. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the foods you eat that cause your body to react badly.
