It is the worst crisis we have ever had. Could no one have seen it coming?

Why every time some expert says; “It’s the worst crisis we’ve ever had” – or – “Could no one have seen it coming?” they are excusing themselves, their organization, their industry, their bureaucracy, or their colleagues for failing to anticipate the problem and act to stop their anger.

If you remember, the so-called experts said this after the 9/11 attacks, even though Tom Clancy wrote a book many years before that dealt with the same concept (flying planes into buildings)? Remember, they said this after the 2008 economic crisis, even though many leaders were warned about the problems of Freddie Mack and Fannie Mae and government guarantees for mortgages. We are now being told this as the Corona Virus wreaks havoc on the world’s populations, even though the SARS outbreak coming from China was much the same scenario years before, although it was not as contagious.

You see, as a think tank coordinator, over the years, I’ve studied pandemics, biological warfare, and the Spanish flu. I have read many books on these subjects, as well as non-fiction books by Michael Preston such as “Demon in the Freeza”, “Hot Zone”, “Cobra Event” and “Panic in Level 4”. I have also read books by other authors such as “Gravity” by Tess Gerritsen. I have read RAND Corporation articles on these topics and “The Great Influenza” by John M. Barry.

Medical professionals, historians, epidemiologists, and even billionaire businessmen have warned us and warned us again about the potential for a global pandemic, which could severely affect human populations. Even health insurance providers and business interruption insurance providers have clauses that exclude pandemics. Because? It’s simple, it would bankrupt their companies and their reinsurers, and they know it.

So if all these people, including me, know this, why the hell should anyone believe the statement? “This is the worst crisis we’ve ever had” – or – “No one could have seen it coming”? In fact, we shouldn’t let anyone go free because they repeat this lame excuse. It’s just complete blasterdash and nonsense. Also, regardless of the type of crisis, “THEY” always say this, and we’re supposed to let them through their inability to deal with the situation. Ridiculous.

Pandemics are not a secret. Nation-States with Biological Weapons Programs are not unknown. Transmissions of diseases from animals, insects to humans are not that uncommon, for example, bird flu, swine flu, Ebola, Lima disease, malaria, plague, etc.

I would tell you that the only thing out of the ordinary in all of this is, in fact, the lack of common sense in preparing for such a challenge to human populations.

Dear humans,

I’m not that impressed with his demeanor, disregard for the inevitable, or his lack of prudence in preparing for this possible eventuality. For such an intelligent species with so much going for you, you screwed up again. What good is a big brain, if you’re not going to use it?

Sincerely,

Lance.
