Is Ezekiel’s War In Our Future?

Do chapters 38 and 39 of Ezekiel describe an ancient battle or a future war? Even if the Hebrew word for arrow and missile is the same, how many modern missiles have you seen launched with a wooden bow? Or could it be burned for cooking or heating? (Eze. 39: 3, 9, 10.) Shields, halberdiers, handstands, and spears are also included in burnable weapons of war. Should these modern weapons of war be burned for seven years? Is wood from the field and forest the main source of fuel for cooking and heating today?

He says they all come on horseback. (Eze. 38: 4, 15.) Doesn’t this describe early transportation? It says that they all wield swords and are dressed in armor, a large company with bucklers and shields. (Eze. 38: 4, 5) Doesn’t this describe primitive weapons?

It says that the spoils of war are old, silver, cattle and goods. (Eze. 38:12, 13.) How many current battles are fought in which cattle are the main spoils of war?

It says that Israel will live safely and quietly in towns without walls. (Eze. 38:11) The walls surrounding the city were an important factor of defense. Are walls important in today’s war? Is Israel Living Without Walls Safely And Quietly Since 1948?

Have you ever tried to find the meaning of “Gog”? (Eze. 39: 1) What about the root word from which it is derived? Believe it or not, it seems that the root and the meaning remain completely unknown.

Did you notice that Gog is a prince or main ruler? (Eze. 38: 1-3, 39: 1) But elsewhere, Gog is a nation. (Revelation 20: 8)

Did you notice that Gog is FROM the land of Magog? (Eze. 38: 2) But elsewhere, Gog AND Magog are BOTH nations from the four corners of the earth that are counted as sand on the seashore. (Revelation 20: 8)

Did you notice that Gog (a prince) comes against Israel with those from different countries located around Israel? (Eze. 38, 39) But elsewhere, Gog and Magog are described as nations in ALL the earth. (Revelation 20: 8)

Did you notice that the Gogs army is defeated in Israel and they burn the guns for seven years? (Eze. 39: 9) If this is the final battle at the end of time, will there be seven more years to burn the weapons? But elsewhere, Gog and Magog are burned with fire from heaven. (Revelation 20: 9) Wouldn’t wooden weapons be immediately burned with fire from heaven? What about the seven years of burning guns?

The word translated “last” in (Eze. 38: 8, 16) means “future or later.” (Strongs Concordance # 319) Ezekiel spoke of what the future was like for his time period, not necessarily our point in time. What would be the purpose of Ezekiel telling the people in 700 BC. C. about a war in our future?
