How to customize lock screen in Windows 8 operating system

Windows 8 offers a completely new experience for Windows users. The Metro-style OS (operating system) integrates a contemporary class of features that allow you to have more control over the functionality of your computer. One of those features is the lock screen that allows you to control the privacy of your computer. Mentioned below is the free Windows 8 support guide that will walk you through how you can customize the lock screen on your Windows 8 computer.

Instructions:

Click on the 5-access bar in the lower left corner of the screen. You will see the usual Start button, Search, Share, Devices, and Settings. Click Settings and then More PC Settings. When you are in the PC Settings window, click Personalize on the left side. Now you will see three options to know. Lock screen, home screen and account picture on the right side.

Click on the Lock Screen tab and the first option (section) you will see is to change the lock screen background image. You will see a list of pre-installed images from which you can choose a background image (wallpaper). If you don’t like them, no problem! Just click the Browse button, select the desired image, and click Upload Image. That is just to add appeal to your locked computer.

Below the images section, you will see Screen Apps. Depending on the size of your monitor, you may need to scroll down to see the Display Apps section. This section is about the notification icons and the status that appear on your computer’s locked screen. Each icon represents a set of options to help you know the current state of your computer.

Click on any of the icons and completely change them (arrange or rearrange the order they appear on the screen) or remove them. For example, if you are using a laptop, you can add the battery icon on the lock screen. It will help you monitor the battery status of your laptop. Similarly, there are emails, messaging, calendar, etc. that you can choose to display on the screen.

If you want to add another notification icon on the screen, click the + icon. Remember, you can choose a maximum of 7 applications to appear on the screen. Below the notification and status icons, you will see a single icon titled Choose an app to display detailed status. Like its title, it will show a more detailed status of notifications, etc.

You can even disable the screen feature in Windows 8. Although we don’t recommend disabling the lock feature as doing so may allow an unauthorized user to access your private documents or photos etc, but if you think you are just a user from your computer, you can disable it. Press the Windows and R keys together to open the Run utility.

When in Run, type ‘gpedit.msc’ (without quotes) and click the OK button. When in the Local Group Policy Editor window, click Computer Configuration and then Administrative Templates, and then navigate to Control Panel> Personalization. You will see the configuration options on the right side of Personalization. Double-click the Do not show screen option.

When you are in the Do not show screen window, click the On button. Click the Apply button and then OK to save the changes and exit the window. Exit the Local Group Policy Editor window. Close the Run window. From now on, your computer will remain unlocked for your use or the use of other users.
