There are large chunks of my life that I don’t remember. Not because I’m vacant or drunk, but because I wasn’t involved; my mother’s 40th birthday, I don’t remember, although I do remember her 50th birthday. My best friend’s wedding: she has pictures and I’m sure I was in them, but other than that, I have no idea.

The things that I do remember are the things that I physically got involved in in some way, or that left me holding some real object that I never wanted to part with. When you have something too beautiful to throw away, you go back to it over and over again. It evokes emotion in you, and in your heart and mind you return to the wonderful place where it came into your life. Now when I believe handmade invitations for someone’s wedding, I never forget their special day, and neither do their guests.

A handmade wedding invitation is a memory in itself. Talk about the spirit of a couple and combined personality. It’s the trailer for the movie that’s the first day of the rest of your life. When done right, it’s a vivid coordination of color, texture, and graphic boldness, or a calm, elegant, and understated work of art.

The cost of these heavenly keepsakes varies just as much as the cost of ordinary invitations. If budget is an issue, choose handmade invitations. Although they won’t be exclusively your design, they usually have a lot more personality than regular printed invitations.

If your event is small and intimate or if your budget isn’t limited, go all out. Ask your wedding event planner or caterer to recommend an invitation artist and make a unique design for your event. You’ll pay a bit more in design fees, so whether your invitation vendor comes recommended or you find it in the yellow pages, be sure to look at their online portfolio and make sure the “feel” of your creations works well. with your tastes

They are usually willing to spend time working on their vision. Never direct them to “do whatever comes to mind” without some kind of direction as to color, theme, or setting. You may be in for a rude awakening, and a non-refundable one at that!

There is much more to consider, but for now, consider that your wedding invitation should be somehow so remarkable that it finds a place in your photo album or memory box, and in your fond memories for years to come. Make sure they feel the joy and excitement that you feel about your impending happiness. Make sure your handmade wedding invitations reflect you and the tone of what your special day should be. Above all, make sure they never forget it!
