Dream interpretation: house

Symbolism of a house in a dream

The house is a very, very common object in a dream. What does a house mean in a dream? The house has many meanings! Here is a dream I had as a teenager:

Dream of House and Tower

I went through a house, climbing higher and higher. A man with a knife chased me the whole way. When I got to the higher rooms, I realized that I had to jump. The man and a band of demons were pounding on the door to get through me. When the wood began to splinter, I leapt through the glass, smashing it into hundreds of shards as I flew out of the room in midair. The man caught up with me, but missed.

As I fell, I could see the house, it was now a tower. I fell, I fell, I fell Hairy arms ending in sharp animal claws smashed through the glass to reach me. They all failed. I was very surprised when I landed comfortably on the sand. I started walking on a beach. Many people passed me, or I passed their blanket on the beach. No one seemed to know or understand my amazing trial, all the things that happened to me, and my great escape.

The meaning of the house dream

That dream came true. It was my life. The anger of my stepfather and the violence of my youth ended when my mother divorced him. He pulled out a knife once, but, as in the dream, he did not cut anyone with it. Later in life, I realized: no one knows what trials other people survived. We are as normal as anyone else.

That house that became a tower represented the years of my youth. At first, he was free and loved. Later, the home was like a prisoner’s tower. I received a lot of beatings. But my stepfather did great things too. I forgave him a long time ago!

The beach represents the rest of my life. “Life is a beach” is a common phrase.

Interpretation of the Christian dream of a house

I have also heard the interpretation of many Christian dreams involving a house. Interpretation belongs to God, after all. (Ask Daniel and José.) The Christian interpretation of a house in a dream almost always seems to be prayer.

Prayer forms a barrier between the warrior of prayer and the will of God’s enemy. I have seen a barbed wire fence in a dream. It was a wall of prayer.

I have seen stone fences that also represented prayer.

The walls of a house can represent the protective prayers of a Christian.

Houses, Generally

The houses have several levels. Each of these represents a different aspect of a person. The ground floor represents daily and conscious life. This is the standard of living that we can see clearly. The attic represents the subconscious and can sometimes represent an interaction with spiritual matters.

Basement

The basement stores things out of use or to be used in the future. The basement, for most, was not an active part of the life plan (the ground floor). It is a storage place, or a place to relax and recline (game room).

A dark and scary basement can represent repressed memories, something difficult to process or accept. Unwanted memories are stored in the basement.

Penthouse

Attics in a dream often represent the subconscious mind. Items here are stored for later use. They are available when needed.

Third floor

Some dreamers report going through the attic to reach a third floor. This floor represents the spiritual life of the dreamer, not the attic. Carefully observe the construction and any instant thoughts on the construction, solidity, or strength of the third story. This represents your spiritual life.

When I was a new Christian, I read many books and learned many things that were New Age (demonic and broken). During that time I dreamed of finding a door on the edge of the attic. I went through, went up some stairs and found myself on a third floor. The walls were mostly burned on one side. The floor was made of new boards, nailed at odd angles. The plywood walls were new too. Everything was built at random and fire damage left the missing ceiling and wall wide open.

I could see a bright sun from there. The intense light made me turn my head and raise my arm to shield my eyes.

Since I was not responsible for my spiritual life, I had built a dangerous and dilapidated third floor. But, I could see the Son from there!

Refreshment from the basement up:

Basement: things you don’t plan to use or don’t want to use

Ground floor: daily life, people and concerns

Attic, things you use with some regularity

Third floor: spiritual life

Walls (Christian): Prayer

Remember: these uses are very common. But, the meaning of your dream could be anything. You have to pray for it. Here are some variations:

What is new house dreams meaning: something new is coming into your life. Maybe your future will bring you a new life.

Dream Interpretation of a Burning House – Something in your life requires immediate attention. It is rapidly destroying your life. Could this be less obvious? If there is a fire in your home, immediate action is necessary.

I dream of a move: your life is going somewhere. Perhaps you will move to a new place and have a new home there. Some aspect of your life is in transition. Look for other details in the dream that can refine interpretation and understanding.

Dream Interpretation: Flooded House – This most often represents God’s judgment. Even interpreters of Jung must pay close attention to this interpretation. In the history of God and his people, Noah’s flood was God’s judgment on the iniquity of mankind. Many of the dreams of recent years about tsunamis, or three tsunamis in rapid succession, refer to the judgment that is coming on the people of the world. And the judgment begins with the house of God. The symbol of a flood as judgment is now part of the “collective unconscious” in Jung’s idea (who actually just translated a book on Eastern mysticism, his own words). However, for those who pray, the Holy Spirit may tell them that the floods are a judgment. If the waters are in your own home, what does that mean? It could be for a single member of the household. Or it could mean the entire neighborhood or the nation.

Conclusion:

A house in a dream can mean many things or used to convey a wide variety of messages. Most of the time, I suppose, a house represents your life. However, sometimes a house is just a house.
