But today, the CLEEN Foundation, a non-governmental organization supported by the MacArthur Foundation, is making it possible online or offline.
It comes with the association of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Lagos-Nigeria Branch with Dele Oloke as President.
Speaking on Friday, February 7, 2020, during the official launch of the Lagos State Corruption Sentencing Housing Center at the NBA Secretariat (The Bar) in Ikeja, Benson Olugbuo, PhD, Executive Director of the foundation, said that the project aims to promote accountability and transparency in the administration of the criminal justice system in Nigeria.
Olugbuo explained that the end result of the entire project is to promote judicial transparency in the processing of anti-corruption cases and ultimately improve accountability in the criminal justice system.
Represented by Blessing Abiri, the foundation’s program manager, the ED named legal professionals, law enforcement agencies, judges, attorneys, prosecutors, defendants, civil society organizations, government agencies, academics, and researchers as those will benefit directly from the project.
Actually, it mainly seeks to monitor the cases related to the ACJA 2015 system through a web platform: uwazi, which is functional, accessible and available to the public through: www.cleen.uwazi.io.
It is in this context that the NBA has been selected to serve as a partner a will house the resource center in Lagos, which will serve as a repository for hard copies of court decisions in cases related to corruption or financial crime cases related to the administration of criminal justice for easy access and use by legal professionals and our state partners, he said.
The head of CLEEN further explained that the Lagos State Working Group meeting has now been realigned to hold a Bimonthly and all are expected to engage with the center in advancing their work in the justice system.
Oloke, the president of the Ikeja NBA, was very enthusiastic about the project and promised to encourage the more than 7,000 lawyers in Lagos to participate in it.
