Preparation prior to the start of development of the presentation

When a marketer gets a request to develop a presentation, here’s what to ask. You can treat this as an informational questionnaire before the start of development.

Goal

  • What is the goal of the PPT?

  • Why is it necessary and what is the benefit?

Audience

  • Who are the recipients of the presentation?

  • What are their designations?

  • What departments do you manage and what are their locations?

Use

  • How will it be used? Is it for public use or is it for a specific limited audience?

  • Will this be presented at a conference/published online/presented to leads or prospects or clients or some other audience?

time format

  • How much time do you have for the presentation?

  • What is the format of the presentation? Will it include a question and answer session or any specific introduction/agenda that should be included?

Legal

  • Is there any legal compliance around the development?

  • Logos to be used in the PPT? Has it been approved or is it publicly available?

  • Quotes to use and their approval?

  • Mentions of projects/clients/any other fact that needs review and approval

  • Attachments to be inserted and corresponding approval

  • Any other assets that need explicit approval?

  • Is the presentation exclusively developed in-house and will it only represent your brand / one or more brands belonging to the same group / will it be a joint effort with some company or a speaker from another company?

Delighted

  • Has the narrative draft been produced?

  • Who is responsible for giving the raw content?

  • Names of subject matter experts who will deliver the content?

Design

  • What are the design considerations?

  • Any preferences about formats, animations, use of color, typography, etc.?

  • Does it need to be introduced or will it be supported by a background narrative that will be timed?

process

  • Who will drive the development of the PPT: process owner/coordinator?

  • Who will review the content, including logos and other legal assets used?

  • Who will approve the design?

  • Who will approve the entire PPT?

  • Who are the contacts that must be kept informed in each process?

supplements

  • Are there any notes or scripts that need to be prepared along with the PPT?

  • Any brochure to hand out? Any other guarantees that need to be given and in what format (electronic copy/hard copy)?

Distribution/ Communications/ Social

  • Post-development circulation of the platform: In case the PPT needs to be distributed to teams or kept in a central location with limited or public access, this should be clarified.

  • Who should be contacted and what kind of access to the cover?

  • Central location where the asset is stored, for future collection and editing by authorized dealers if needed?

  • In which social channels should it be distributed?

  • Should there be a communication by mail about the completion of the platform? If so, to whom?

  • If the deck (non-editable version of the deck) should be integrated into a mailing campaign or the content part should be used in a campaign, it should be clarified and the relevant team should be kept informed for the same
