How to make the most of the Diwali Festival

The Diwali festival lasts for several days and celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Most countries like India, Nepal and Malaysia celebrate the festival in mid-October and around mid-November. Just like Christmas is for Christians, Diwali is very important for Hindus. It is known as ‘the festival of lights’ and when you choose to join, you should do everything possible to enjoy it and get the most out of it.

Get ready for the festival: If you are Hindu, you definitely know everything about the festival and if you are not, but want to join, then find out everything about the festival. Once you know what it’s all about and what’s to be expected, start preparing financially for the little changes and giveaways that come with the festival.

Go shopping – Actually, it is customary to buy decorations and utensils on the first day of Diwali. Feel free to search for the best you can find to get into the festive mood. There are so many ornaments and assorted items that you can choose from. This should also be a good time to shop for gifts that you will offer to loved ones and family members if you were unable to purchase them before the season began.

Clean your home or business premises before the first day of the festival arrives – Clean all the corners and get rid of all the debris and trash and also make sure you don’t have dirty clothes lying around. Cleaning is more like a cleaning ritual and you can complete it by drawing footprints over the house using rice flour and vermilion powder as an indication that you are ready and awaiting the arrival of the Goddess.

Decorate your entrances with colorful traditional Diwali motifs – You can opt for anything from flower garlands, bells, mirrors, tapestries, and even LED lights to make your entryway as colorful and inviting as possible. The decor welcomes the goddess of wealth and prosperity and you can find so many Rangoli designs to suit your preferences. You can choose different types of Rangoli and then place them indoors to complete the festival atmosphere.

Light your lamps every night – The little oil lamps are called diyas and you can place them around your house and make sure you light them every night throughout the festival. They are a symbol of inner knowledge or light and bring inner peace while fighting against traces of ignorance and darkness. Consider including some candles in the setup as well.

Adorn yourself with new jewelry and clothing. – A saree would be perfect for a woman, but you can also go for a salwar-kurta. Men can wear beautifully embroidered kurtas; Cotton or silk tunic and matching pants are best.

Sibling care – This is what you should do on the last day of the festival. Simple acts like cooking for them, gifting them, and wishing them a long life affirm the love between siblings. Diwali actually deepens and strengthens relationships and this should also be what you live to achieve.
