Do training songs affect training results?

Have you noticed that people who exercise (resistance or cardio) have a portable music player or the training environment itself has music? More than taking the boredom out of stationary cardio exercises, there could be a significant effect on our workout results if we have music on.

Although music doesn’t reduce the perception of exertion during high-intensity work, it does enhance the experience of it: it makes hard training seem more fun, shaping the way the mind interprets symptoms of fatigue. by The United States Sports Academy Journal

Music has a great effect on all of us, no matter what generation we are from. Songs can dictate/enhance our mood, distract us from our external environment, or help us get into a state of mind where we can focus.

A United States Sports Academy Journal study called “Music in Sport and Exercise: Theory and Practice” said that while we can’t reduce our perception of exertion during our workouts, in a small but significant way it helps us improve your experience. In other words, it can make hard work during workouts more tolerable than exercising without music. It can also make it more fun, especially if we are doing cardiovascular exercises such as a treadmill or bicycle.

Song genres and tempo in training

Trance or House songs can seem to affect me if I’m doing high-intensity interval exercises or high-intensity bodyweight circuits. Optimism helps to improve the rhythm and keep up when the training is really exhausting. Hip-hop and rock can affect resistance training more because it’s much slower than trance, house, or techno, so the tempo or lifting is much slower as well.

Alternative, love songs or any other type of music is more for steady state cardio for me. It can help me pass the time by keeping a steady pace. It also helps me think or talk to people, a good way to end the training.

Variety helps to get bored

Bringing variations to the training songs helps a lot because I don’t get bored and the difference in tempo can also help to get more results from the training itself. If you have set goals and want to focus, in addition to changing your workouts frequently, you can also change your workout songs based on your mood. I hope this helps!
