A guide to women’s underpants

There is absolutely nothing more uncomfortable and unflattering than when your briefs don’t fit properly. A VPL (visible underwear line) should never be seen as it will cut into your bottom and make it look like you are wearing a size too small and weigh more than you are. The type of brief you should wear will also depend on the type of clothing you are wearing and remember to never buy too small as doing so will add pounds! Here is my guide:

ribbons

Although thongs seem to have lost some of their popularity in recent years, a seamless thong that doesn’t cut into the cheek anywhere will prevent VFL. While they’re usually not the most comfortable briefs, try wearing a classic thong under your pants, and a low-rise thong if you’re wearing low-rise jeans or pants. Avoid thongs if you need support around your tummy area, as they won’t provide it.

Boy/hipster shorts

Kids and hipster shorts are great for preventing VPL as the seam line doesn’t cross the bottom. They have gained popularity in recent years and are now one of the most popular briefs on the market. A classic pair of boys’ shorts works well under denim, for slouching around the house, and a pair of no-show boys’ cut-off panties that won’t show through even the tightest skirts or pants. There are many seamless fabrics available in this style now, so I highly recommend looking for them when wearing a fitted skirt, dress, or pant.

classic briefs

Briefs are the classic staple in any underwear collection. They will create VPL with lightweight summer fabrics, however they work well with heavy winter fabrics like wool, denim, or tweed. Classic briefs offer comfort and a great amount of coverage at the bottom, so if you’re sitting at your desk all day, they’re ideal.

Bikinis

A bikini cut brief will obviously give you more coverage at the bottom than a thong, but typically has very little material in the hip area. A classic bikini with a high cut leg and a high cut waist is perfect for wearing under thick skirts and pants. A low-rise bikini works under loose, low-rise pants and skirts because it ruches very low in the front and still provides good coverage in the back.

control briefs

Control briefs have grown in popularity in recent years as more women turn to them to fit over that little black dress or to look slim with their favorite denim jeans. They work by supporting the tummy and waist area with a heavy spandex fabric. There are many varieties on the market and the best way to ensure you don’t distribute your love handles to another part of your body is to select a style similar to the lycra shorts you would wear to the gym with a high waist that ends just below your bust. This will smooth out your tummy and waist while slimming your bottom and thighs. These are great for women who don’t have a defined waistline, as they will create the illusion that you have one.
