What should a disorganized person do? By Stacey Platt

“What’s a disorganized person to do?” by Stacey Platt is subtitled “317 Ideas, Tips, Projects, and Checklists for Tidying Up Your Home and Streamlining Your Life.” That is exactly what this book is, a book of tips, ideas and strategies for organizing your home and therefore your life. The book is easy to read and well organized (I hope so!) to find the areas you need help with. It can be a good book to skim through once and then use as a reference when you need help with certain areas of your home.

There is a short introduction to the book and then a section on general principles. These principles are shared, like everything else in this book, with brief tips or lessons. Things like the Three Habits of Highly Organized People (Consume Consciously, Expend Your Clutter, and Live Within the Means of Your Space), silverware drawer lessons (forks stored with forks, single consistent home, etc.), and ten steps to organize anything. , which I will not list here.

The book is then divided into sections related to each area of a person’s home. These include: the entryway, kitchen, bedrooms and closets, bathrooms, living and family rooms, home office, utility and storage areas, children’s clutter, and, finally, a section on travel and removals. None of the tips are that long or complicated, and the book has plenty of photos of well-organized areas of the home to encourage you to get organized. Some tips, like how to fold a fitted sheet, are accompanied by photos to show you the method.

There are 267 themes in the book. I guess the 317 in the title is because some of the tips contain more than one. Like topic 4 mentioned above which includes ten steps to organize anything. Regardless of the number, the book is packed with organizational tips, suggestions, and ideas. Chances are you don’t like or don’t use all of them. However, I bet you will find things in this book that can help you become more organized. It is an easy to read and attractive book with quality design and photographs. (Although some remind me of a model house in a shop window and not one that is actually inhabited)

There are many books on how to organize and get rid of clutter. Some of my favorites are Don Aslett’s, simply because I like his writing style and his attitude on the subject. I think this book by Stacey Platt is good for those who need some tips and advice to get organized. He doesn’t have the motivation that Aslett’s books have, but that’s his style. I would recommend this as a good reference for organization tips and advice.
