Six Benefits You Can Get From Listening To Inspirational Songs

You probably have a list of songs that you like to listen to on a regular basis. You may like the specific lyrics, melody, rhythm, or singer. While it’s fun to listen to songs for the sheer pleasure of it, you can also use certain types of inspirational songs to help you achieve the things you want to do.

Songs that inspire you can help you in the following ways:

  • Feel brave: Sometimes you may have to do something that makes you feel a little nervous and less confident. That’s when listening to a song like ‘Eye of the Tiger’ by Rocky can inspire you to feel braver. It has a very powerful and upbeat rhythm, and the words speak of being up to the challenge that is presented. Every time I listen to it, it makes me feel powerful and I know that I can achieve whatever I’m working on.
  • It distracts you from boring tasks: There are certain things that you probably dread doing. You keep putting them off because they are so boring, but they still need to be finished. You can use inspirational songs to distract yourself from homework. Play some songs that make you feel very upbeat and full of energy. You will concentrate on the music and the words, so you will not pay as much attention to the boring task. Before you know it, you’ll have the job done, and then you can do something more enjoyable.
  • Makes difficult things seem easier – I’m a runner. Even though I run several times a week, running is never easy for me. So I put some very lively, fast-paced songs on my iPod. Instead of thinking about how exhausting my training is, I focus on the rhythm and beat of the songs. The songs inspire me to run longer and make training seem easier.
  • Lift your mood: Sometimes you can feel really down. You can try to talk yourself into feeling better with only moderate success. When that happens to me, I find that putting on some very positive songs can change my mood very quickly. These inspirational songs help me feel better about the things that are happening in my life.
  • Inspires you to take action: Some songs can help you believe in yourself and your ability to achieve your goals. One of my favorite songs that does that is “I Believe I Can Fly” by R Kelly. When I hear the words, ‘If I can see it, then I can do it. If I just believe it, there is nothing’, I am ready to act towards my goal because I feel that I can really achieve it.
  • Helps you deal with stress – There are times when life becomes so challenging that you can easily get overwhelmed. If you take the time to listen to the right songs, they can help you feel more relaxed and at peace. When I find myself in this state, I turn on songs with inspirational words and a slow beat. Then I sit down, close my eyes, take a deep breath, and listen. It helps me release stress from my mind and body. I feel more calm and able to deal with whatever is in front of me.
