RC Airplanes for Beginners – Anti-Shock Technology (ACT) – Pros and Cons

Anti-Crash Technology (ACT) is a feature found in the HobbyZone line of beginner rc airplanes. HobbyZone claims that this technology makes learning to fly rc planes easier and safer.

Before we get into the pros and cons of this technology, let’s take a look at how it works. Each aircraft has two sensors, one on the top of the plane and one on the bottom of the fuselage. These sensors monitor the position of the aircraft. The sensor at the top of the plane looks at your sky and the one at the bottom looks at the ground.

They communicate with a computer on the plane and let it know if it is flying correctly. For example: if the plane plummets and the sensors detect that the plane is facing incorrectly, the computer system will automatically correct the control inputs and help prevent the plane from crashing. This gives you more time to regain control of the plane.

Ok Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of Anti-Crash technology.

Pros:

As you saw in the example above, if your plane goes out of control, the computer system will help you correct the orientation of the plane and help you regain control of the plane. This can help you, as a beginning rc airplane pilot, get out of some tough situations. Also, when you get more practice in controlling the plane, you can turn off the ACT and be confident in your own piloting skills.

Cons:

The main disadvantage of this technology is that it could actually cause a crash. If you fly over water or areas with a shiny surface, the aircraft’s sensors get confused. The lower sensor sees the reflection of the sky and thinks the plane is upside down. The plane will then try to correct its orientation, causing the plane to do all sorts of weird things. As you can see, this could be very bad.

While many say ACT has helped them learn to fly, the general census regarding airplanes using this technology is to turn it off before flying. If you want to try flying with Anti-Crash Technology turned on, make sure you are away from water or areas with shiny surfaces. This will help ensure that the ACT works properly.
