Home Interior Maintenance From The Experts

It’s easy to overlook the importance of indoor home maintenance. It’s probably due to all the attention that has gone into maintaining the exterior of our homes that we tend to forget that interiors require the same care. There may even be times when it requires even more care and maintenance, but of course that’s on a case-by-case basis.

For those who are very thorough with their homes, the importance of interior maintenance is never lost and they are always aware of how vital it is. And everyone should pay attention to it, because in some ways it is as important, or not more, than outdoor home maintenance. After all, many of us live most of our lives indoors and within the confines of our own homes. Therefore, keeping it in good condition should be a priority.

For those who would like some reminders and tips on what type of maintenance to do for the interior of their homes, a short list is provided below. This list will show that while a little light work inside is acceptable, that only goes so far and you will still need to do extensive maintenance work in the future. It also means that you will have to spend more when the need for extensive internal maintenance of your home becomes apparent.

Here is the list:

  • It helps to make a list and then follow it to make sure you are aware of the things to do and will always remind you of them. It would be better if you could create a couple of lists; with a list of things to do in the spring and the other in the fall. Those would be for the repairs needed to prepare for the upcoming summer and winter seasons, respectively.
  • Try to save energy in your kitchen. You can do this in a number of ways and one of them is by adjusting your thermostat. Make sure it’s not set to be colder than it should be, as that could significantly increase your energy use at home. The refrigerator should be set between 37 and 40 degrees F and the freezer should be between 0 and 5 degrees F. Also be sure to regularly clean the coils in your refrigerator, vacuuming them every six months.
  • You can vacuum into the dryer duct. Dryers are capable of producing fine lint particles that can be responsible for shortening the life of the dryer and also possibly causing fires. Lint can accumulate in the vent pipe and the chances of this happening are increased if it is a corrugated pipe. The dryer should be unhooked from the duct and vacuum completely around the inlet of the dryer. Try to get into the duct as much as possible with the use of the vacuum hose.
