Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics

The NBA teams are well-equipped and talented, but there are some games that basketball lovers can’t wait to see. This is due to the history of rivalries between those teams. One such rivalry is between the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics.

These two teams have met in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association with such spirit and enthusiasm that each of those games is a classic in basketball history. These matches have always been like a celebration for fans of both teams and for lovers of the game in general.

This rivalry reached its height during the 1980s. Both teams had some of the greatest players the game had ever seen in their lineup. Some of them were Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Robert Parish and Kevin McHale. During the seven seasons from 1985 to 1991, these two teams met five times in the NBA playoffs. Of those five times, the Pistons have the lead with three wins. These victories came in ’88, ’89 and ’91.

The Celtics could only win twice in ’85 and ’87. The Eastern Conference final in 1987 was a true classic. The Celtics were no match for the Pistons’ young bad boys. They have threatened to end the Celtics era. This final went to game seven and in that too the Pistons have shown their metal by putting up a tough fight. But unfortunately the Celtics won by a slim margin of only three points. This loss was a huge shock to the Detroit Pistons fans and the entire team. They were the favorites to win the championship. They got their revenge by defeating them in the next two seasons in a row.
